Rodrigo "Roliço" Gil has emerged victorious in the Main Event Superbet of the second JPT stage, cementing his place in Jokers Poker Tour history. Gil navigated a field of 426 entries to claim the championship title and a significant R$65,000 prize. The victory was notably sealed after a critical hero call during the final stages of the tournament.

A Charismatic Champion

Known for his charisma within the poker circuit, Gil, a prominent figure in Rio de Janeiro's poker scene, expressed his deep emotion upon winning. "It's a special moment. Everyone knows me, knows my history with the event, how much I like it. Coming as a player, a client, it's very good and very exciting," Gil shared. His connection to the JPT is long-standing, having served as its general director until 2023.

A Formidable Final Table

The final table of the JPT Main Event was a testament to the high caliber of players participating in the circuit. It featured notable names such as Wendel Cader, the current three-time circuit ranking champion; Daniel Noronha, a two-time Brazilian champion in the KSOP ranking; Fabio Peres, the winner of the first JPT Main Event; and other seasoned players like Marcelo Dutra and Wallace Dias.

"The final table was very difficult. Many well-known names, many friends, people we root for to be in these moments," commented Gil. He specifically highlighted the challenge of facing opponents like Wendel Cader and Daniel Noronha. "Facing Wendel is very complicated, it's like Boca Juniors playing at La Bombonera. Daniel, I don't even need to mention. He was the chip leader from start to finish, but I managed to make two calls against him to become champion," Gil added.

The Decisive Hero Call

Noronha held the chip lead for most of the tournament, while Gil strategically managed his stack to reach the final four in a strong position. The turning point of the tournament for Gil was a remarkable hero call made in the 4-handed stage against Noronha. Despite facing a check-raise on the turn and a shove on the river, Gil made the call with a second-pair hand.

"This hero call at 4-handed was very complex overall. I thought a lot. It's difficult. I'm usually impulsive, but I replayed the hand and couldn't put him on a Jack (which would be top pair), so I ended up calling with the second pair," Gil explained. This successful, albeit risky, call proved instrumental in his path to victory.

Key Hands and Advancement

Following the crucial hero call, Gil experienced a favorable turn of cards. He won a coin flip with Ace-Ten against pocket Sixes to eliminate Wendel Cader just before the prize payouts began, with an Ace appearing on the turn. Subsequently, he eliminated Marcelo Dutra in third place in another flip, this time with King-Queen against pocket Nines, hitting a Queen on the flop and a King on the turn. Entering the heads-up play against Noronha with a significant chip advantage, Gil ultimately secured the title when Noronha attempted a bluff that did not succeed. The final hand saw a board of J-7-8-5-2, where Gil called Noronha's shove with Jack-Four, revealing his winning hand as Noronha showed Queen-Nine.
