ClubWPT Gold has announced it is shutting down operations in Nevada, leaving players in the state until October 2 to withdraw their remaining balances. The sweepstakes poker site has already cut off coin purchases, and sweepstakes play itself will become unavailable from September 28, according to a report from Card Player.

The company framed the move as a pause rather than a permanent exit, saying in a statement that it was “pausing sweepstakes gameplay in Nevada” in response to “shifts in the regulatory environment.” ClubWPT Gold added that it is “optimistic that with product modifications, we can resume offering sweepstakes gameplay in the future.” The company has not specified which regulatory changes triggered the decision.

Background: Training-credit model shift in 2025
ClubWPT Gold’s pullout from Nevada follows a major restructuring of its business model in September 2025. At that time, the site dropped its free-to-play games and Gold Coins in favor of poker training credits that players purchase to enter games, with winnings redeemed for prizes. Card Player reported that the shift was designed to keep the site within the law in states that were cracking down on sweepstakes gaming, including California, where ClubWPT Gold continues to operate. Legal experts have questioned whether even the new format complies with California statutes. Nevada now appears to be the first state ClubWPT Gold has left since adopting the training-credit format.

What Nevada players lose
ClubWPT Gold’s exit further shrinks the sweepstakes poker options available in Nevada. Global Poker has long barred players from Nevada along with 14 other states, including California. Clubs Poker also excludes Nevada and nine other states. With ClubWPT Gold now removed from the list, Card Player notes that tightening rules around sweepstakes gaming are leaving many players in restricted states with little recourse beyond offshore operators that operate outside U.S. regulation.

Players in Nevada who want a regulated real-money alternative can turn to WSOP Online. Nevada is one of four states in the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement (MSIGA), which allows WSOP Online to pool players in Nevada, New Jersey, Michigan and Pennsylvania. No other licensed operator has launched real-money online poker in Nevada, though BetMGM has previously signaled it could eventually enter the market.

Regulatory uncertainty and the company’s next steps
ClubWPT Gold has not detailed exactly what regulatory changes prompted its Nevada exit, nor has it given a timeline for a possible return. The company said only that it hopes further product modifications will allow it to resume operations in the state. The move comes amid a broader regulatory tightening on sweepstakes gaming across several states. For Nevada players, the immediate task is to withdraw any funds by the October 2 deadline. The company has urged its Nevada subscribers to cancel their memberships.
