The new P2W room in Palmas, the capital of Tocantins, hosted its first major poker series on the weekend of August 1, and tournament director Marcos Paulo says the debut outperformed expectations. Mundo Poker covered the opening weekend and spoke with Paulo about the event, the new state circuit and the growth he expects for poker in the region.

A new poker room in Palmas

P2W Palmas is designed for both tournaments and cash games, giving players in Tocantins a dedicated meeting point for the poker community. Paulo, who was born in Araguaína and now lives in Foz do Iguaçu, said the invitation to direct the opening event came from P2W Palmas manager Pedro Londe, the person who first opened doors for him in the poker market years ago.

“For starters, it is a great pleasure to be here,” Paulo said, as translated from the Mundo Poker report. “I currently live in Foz do Iguaçu, where I direct some events in the border region, and I came to lead the biggest poker event Tocantins has ever had. I am sure we will have even bigger events in the state. I am from Tocantins, born and raised in Araguaína. I worked in the region for a long time, and it is a huge honor to take part in an event like this, held in such a beautiful club that is already a big success.”

Satellites and guaranteed prizes fueled the debut

Almost half of the field had already booked seats through satellites run on KKPoker before the live event began, which gave organizers early confidence. The opening Main Event of the Circuito Tocantinense de Poker carried an R$ 80,000 guarantee and drew 84 entries on Day 1A, with seven players surviving 14 levels. A second tournament, the Super 100, offered R$ 15,000 guaranteed.

“Expectations were already very good, because we started the event with almost half the field already guaranteed through the satellites,” Paulo said. “That naturally increased our confidence in the success of the stage. In addition, the prestige and strength of the P2W brand brought all that recognition to Tocantins. Seeing so many players supporting the event is very satisfying. I can only thank everyone who participated.”

A five-stage state circuit

Paulo said the creation of the Circuito Tocantinense de Poker fills a gap in the state. He described it as a structured circuit with a predefined calendar and a continuous points race to determine the region’s best players.

“Tocantins really lacked a structured circuit, with a calendar defined in advance, a set number of stages and a continuous battle to define who would be the best players in the state,” he said. “The idea is for competitors to follow all the stages and fight point by point for the lead of the ranking. We already have five stages defined to crown the circuit champions and decide who will be the CBPT champion. Since we started this first stage with so much success, I sincerely believe the next ones will only be bigger.”

Video analysis: Danilo Lopes’ combo draw in the Super 100

One of the most discussed hands from the opening weekend came during the Super 100, when Danilo Lopes moved all in after a 4-bet and ended the hand with nearly 100,000 in chips on the strength of a strong combo draw. The hand was featured in the Poker de Boteco #146 video segment published by Mundo Poker, giving viewers a clear example of how the tournament’s middle stages played out before the Super 100 crowned its winner.

What remains unclear

The Mundo Poker report does not list the dates or venues for the remaining four stages of the Circuito Tocantinense de Poker, nor does it say when the full schedule will be published. The criteria for the final ranking and for the CBPT champion label are also not detailed beyond the general description of a points race. Prize figures cited in the report are guarantees, not final distribution numbers.

How to follow the circuit

Players interested in the next stages should monitor P2W’s official channels and the KKPoker satellite schedule. Live club announcements, not third-party summaries, are the reliable way to confirm stage dates, buy-ins and venue details before traveling.
