The BSOP Winter festival in Brazil concluded its High Roller Mystery Bounty event on Monday, with Lucas Scafini emerging as the champion after a field of 81 entries. The R$10,000 buy-in tournament combined a high-stakes structure with mystery bounties, and Scafini’s victory included a triple all-in hand that he described as the turning point.

Scafini, a player from Rio Grande do Sul, had not recorded a significant result in any High Roller at this stage of the BSOP Winter before this event. His win earned him R$275,000, combining regular prize money and bounty envelopes. The victory also strengthened his position in the 2026 Brazilian poker ranking, which he is actively pursuing.

The key hand that Scafini credited with changing the tournament’s momentum occurred at the final table when the game was four-handed. He was all-in with QJ offsuit against an opponent holding 77 and another with AQ. The flop brought a jack, giving him a pair and the lead. He won the triple all-in, took the chip lead, and never looked back.

“For sure it was that hand,” Scafini said in a post-tournament interview. “I won a triple all-in where I was behind. I hit a jack, and from there I thought, ‘This tournament is mine.’” He also noted that he managed to claim three of the five largest mystery bounties remaining, leaving only the two smaller ones for his opponents.

Scafini’s approach to the tournament was aggressive from the start. He said he entered determined to change his story at BSOP Winter, aiming not only to win but to collect as many bounties as possible. “I said from the beginning that I was going to play this tournament. I wanted a deep run because I hadn’t scored in any of the High Rollers I played in this stage, and I’m fighting for the ranking. I said I would go for all the chips, win it, take the biggest bounty, and leave here champion. God illuminated everything,” he explained.

Strategy and patience

Scafini emphasized the importance of patience throughout the event. He described long stretches of being card dead, which forced him to wait for the right spots. “It was a very difficult decision. I had a lot of resilience during the entire tournament because I was card dead for a long time. It wasn’t easy. But thank God, when I made the important decisions and needed to put my chips in the middle, my hands held up, and everything worked out,” he said.

The mystery bounty format added an extra layer of strategy. With five large envelopes still unopened at the final table, Scafini targeted the biggest bounties by putting opponents at risk. His success in pulling three of the five largest bounties reflected his willingness to apply pressure in key hands.

What this means for the ranking

Scafini is now focused on the remaining three days of BSOP Winter. He has already scored points in the High Roller and is aiming for the Championship event, which could propel him to the top of the Brazilian ranking for 2026. “I came into this stage expecting to win at least two trophies. Now I need one more, maybe the Championship. Who knows, we might even take the lead in the overall ranking. In the High Roller we already scored points, thank God. I hope to keep adding points until the end of the stage,” he said.

The BSOP Winter continues with the Championship event, which has a buy-in of R$25,000 and attracted 240 entries with 78 players advancing to Day 2. Scafini’s victory in the High Roller Mystery Bounty provides him with momentum and a substantial boost in both prize money and ranking points.
