The Star Entertainment Group, the Australian casino and hospitality company that operates The Star Sydney, The Star Gold Coast and The Star Brisbane, has published its unaudited financial results for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026. The report shows a significantly narrowed EBITDA loss compared to the same period last year, while revenue remained mostly flat.

The company’s Q4 revenue reached AUD 265 million ($185.3 million), consistent with the prior quarter. The EBITDA loss for the three months ended June 30, 2026, was AUD 8 million ($5.6 million), a 70% improvement from the AUD 27 million ($18.9 million) loss recorded in Q4 of fiscal 2025.

Cost-saving initiatives drive improvement
The Star attributed the narrowed loss to multiple cost-saving programs, including stabilized trading at its flagship Sydney property, stronger volumes on the Gold Coast, and a lower operator fee for The Star Brisbane. The company’s new leadership team, brought in after a period of regulatory and financial turmoil, was credited with pushing the initiatives forward.

The group also completed the first phase of its exit from the DBC (Destination Brisbane Consortium), following a binding long-form documentation signed with joint venture partners on August 12, 2025. This exit is part of a broader restructuring effort.

Debt refinancing completed
On May 7, 2026, The Star announced the completion of a debt refinancing package: a $390 million secured term loan due May 2029 from WhiteHawk Capital Partners. After the refinancing, the group’s available liquidity stood at AUD 130 million ($90.1 million). As of June 30, the company held AUD 267 million in cash.

The refinancing provides The Star with a more stable capital structure, though the company continues to face elevated debt costs and regulatory oversight.

Going concern uncertainties remain
Despite the improved quarterly results, The Star warned that its ability to continue as a going concern depends on resolving several material uncertainties, some of which are outside its control. The company also noted that there are matters that could potentially impact its financial performance, and that there is no assurance these issues will be resolved by the publication of its audited annual financial statements.

The company has been navigating a difficult environment since 2022, when regulatory investigations led to license suspensions, fines, and a management overhaul. The new leadership has focused on cost reduction, compliance improvements, and stabilizing trading operations.

What this means for casino visitors
For players and visitors to The Star’s properties, the financial improvements suggest that operations are stabilizing, which can affect the quality and availability of gaming floors, including video poker machines, table games, and hospitality services. However, the going-concern warning means that long-term planning remains uncertain. The Star’s properties in Sydney, Gold Coast, and Brisbane continue to operate, and the company is actively seeking further cost reductions and supplier savings to strengthen its position.
